Housing Stabilization Update: Family of Seven Successfully Housed

A single parent with six children overcame housing instability and secured permanent housing through coordinated support and persistent advocacy. Today, the family is safely housed and moving toward stability.

A single parent with six minor children was referred to the 100 Families Initiative while experiencing prolonged housing instability. The family had been without stable housing since July and was temporarily staying with extended family members while actively seeking permanent housing.

The parent was employed full-time and held an active Section 8 voucher nearing expiration. Working closely with a Section 8 caseworker, the family pursued multiple housing options that required property repairs and inspections. During this process, an initial landlord withdrew unexpectedly despite funding for the security deposit and first month’s rent having already been secured through a partner agency.

The family remained engaged and continued their housing search. After viewing additional properties, they successfully secured a lease for a new unit. The property passed all required city and Section 8 inspections, allowing the family to move forward.

With coordinated support from community partners—and a financial contribution from the family—the household was able to obtain keys and complete their move. The family is now fully housed and beginning the process of stabilizing in their new residence.

This case highlights the importance of cross-agency collaboration, timely communication, and sustained advocacy in supporting families facing complex housing barriers. We are grateful to our partners who played a critical role in helping this family move from housing insecurity to stability.
