Why This Partnership Matters
One of the most powerful outcomes of the 100 Families Initiative is what happens when relationships turn into immediate action. Our partnership with Peckham is a powerful example of what collaboration looks like when compassion meets urgency.
At our Annual Alliance Award Meeting, several Peckham staff members attended—not just to observe, but to engage. They introduced themselves, shared their mission, and described their work supporting individuals facing significant barriers to employment, especially young adults navigating the court system.
A Family’s Turning Point
This family had endured a long history of childhood trauma. As an adult, the individual committed a crime and was facing the possibility of life in prison. Because of the severity of the charges, she was unable to secure employment. At the same time, a required tether created a serious and ongoing financial burden.
When I heard Peckham describe their work, I asked—on the spot—if they could help.
The very next day, Nukkia Williams from Peckham called me. She shared that after our conversation, she couldn’t sleep. She kept thinking about this family and wondering what could be done.
Peckham offered a six-week paid training opportunity. The income helped cover the cost of the tether and provided life lessons, structure, and encouragement. Today, this family is more confident and better equipped to face what lies ahead.
