Tackling Poverty in Lansing: How 100 Families Brings Hope Through Collaboration

Lansing, one of Michigan’s major cities, faces a significant challenge with a poverty rate of 22%—nearly double the state average of 12%. Even more alarming, an estimated 500 children in Lansing are homeless each night. Despite the presence of numerous resources in the city, a lack of collaboration among agencies often creates gaps in support for families in crisis.

Bridging the Gap with United Against Poverty

At United Against Poverty, we believe that bridging these gaps is the key to addressing poverty effectively. That’s why we launched the 100 Families Initiative in July 2024, with a mission to unite agencies, streamline communication, and create lasting solutions for struggling families in Lansing. Our pre-launch phase is already making a difference, and we’re gearing up for the official launch in April 2025, which promises to be a transformative milestone for the community.

Collaboration Through HopeHub

The 100 Families Initiative uses a powerful case management platform called HopeHub to facilitate agency collaboration. HopeHub allows participating organizations to share information, coordinate efforts, and track progress in real time. With this system, agencies can see the support being provided by others and identify gaps that need to be filled. This level of communication and teamwork ensures that families receive comprehensive care, rather than falling through the cracks of disconnected services.

A Holistic Approach to Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

As the founder and medical director of United Against Poverty and the coordinator of the 100 Families Initiative, I, Dr. Eleanore Kue, am deeply committed to helping families move from crisis to stability. Through this initiative, we focus on a holistic approach to poverty, addressing not only immediate needs but also the root causes that keep families trapped in cycles of hardship.

The 100 Families Initiative is not just about meeting physical needs; it’s about empowering families, equipping them with tools for financial literacy, and connecting them with community resources. We believe that when agencies work together, the outcomes are far greater than what any single organization can achieve alone.

Join Us in Transforming Lives

As we prepare for the official launch in April 2025, we are calling on local agencies, churches, and community leaders to join us. By working together, we can close the gaps in Lansing’s support network and create a brighter future for families in need.
